Harold Hart was the Director of Martha Jackson Gallery in New York. He became the first African-American director for an important, private art gallery at the time. Hart organized exhibitions for artists such as Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, and Karel Appel during his twenty-year tenure.
